I can’t explain how much I love this basketball hoop in our driveway. I see it as my right hand assistant with this media management job I have. I ‘hired’ this wonderful assistant a few years ago (it was actually a hand-me-down rolled down from the neighbors driveway) and it has done an excellent job of handling many media conflict situations at our home. It is worth double its weight in pure gold. If you don’t have one it is time to get one. If your kids say they don’t like basketball get one anyway, your husband will play with them then they will love it. Mom, you can shoot with them too, it is really quite interesting to get out there with the boys and watch what happens in basketball world.
This is for little boys and big boys and if you think that your biggish boy has moved on… think again and watch this awesome ‘Trick Shot’ video that one of our MMM moms game free teens produced! There is also a part II! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9ien7o5IHY
The developmental benefits of this hoop is so rich and diverse that I will sprinkle them throughout my posts this summer. But for now remember that the physical benefits of shooting 200-300+ real hoops a day is far greater than any plug in game could ever hope for. Besides building muscle and burning over 700 calories an hour (remember that our plugged in culture is overweight), the concentration and balance workout also produces incredible endurance. If your kids are small, lower the hoop, if they are over 10 make it regulation height.
Get your kids a hoop, move the car out of the driveway, shut down the fake games and get them going on a real game of one-on-one. The thrill of making those shots will build awesome neuronal pathways and connections that will serve them well in the future. Challenge them (“Make 50 shots while I make dinner.”), encourage some friendly competition and then get out of the way , go back in the house and let them be real boys! (an don’t forget to watch the Trick Shot video with your son!)
